History

A slip jig, this is the tune for an Irish Gaelic Nursery rhyme, with several variants of the lyrics. Often referred to as a "lap rhyme", good for bouncing a little kid on your knees and sometimes called "Dance the Baby". Also the name of a 1980's children's show ("Dilín Ó Deamhas"), which used the song as its opening titles.

The last word in the phrase can be either Damhsa ("Dance", i.e. "Dance the Baby") or Deamhas ("Angel", literally "Little Angel").

There are several renditions available on web - one of my favourites is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QcA0E_vZkjQ. Another is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cbP0NtR87gg - you can clearly hear the pronunciation of the words, and the fiddle is easy to follow.
